However, director Robert Rodriguez, who rebooted the franchise with a much younger set of child cast members, is hopeful of a sequel provided some conditions are met.
In an interview with Collider before the release of the first Netflix movie, he sounded optimistic about Spy Kids: Armageddon 2, but confessed to having to wait until the young kids had a summer break so they have time to shoot. According to the director, the sequel to the rebooted film looks more possible, considering the kids are much younger compared to the original franchise, so they have a chance to explore more storylines.
Rodriguez said, “The first Spy Kids series we had a movie in the theater every year for three years straight for Spy Kids 1, 2, and 3. They were consecutive. We were just finishing one and starting the next, so that would be really great. But fortunately, with these kids, we got them so young, they’re younger than the original Spy Kids. They’re only eight years old, so we’ve got them for several years.”
As of now, a sequel to Spy Kids: Armageddon isn’t confirmed. It will also depend on the success of the first film in terms of ratings and viewership that will draw the course for a second. However, if confirmed and announced before 2024, a sequel can be expected sometime in 2025. Viewers will have to wait for official updates as this is just a prediction.
