Though the Harry Potter television reboot is still in its early stages of development, series producer David Heyman — who also produced all eight Harry Potter feature-length adaptations — says the franchise’s TV revival will delve deeper into its source material.
Currently in development at Max, which was announced earlier this year, the 7-season Harry Potter reboot will feature all seven installments in the fantasy book series J.K. Rowling created. Speaking with Total Film, Heyman confirmed that the in-the-works series is still in “its early days.”
“We haven’t even hired a writer to begin writing. It’s a bit early. But hopefully [it will be] something that’s very special, and gives us an opportunity to see the books, and to enjoy a series which explores the books more deeply,” the Heyday Films founder said.
What Was the Public’s Reaction to the Series Reboot?
Of course, as one of the most popular franchises in cinema and modern literature history, the announcement of a Harry Potter TV revival generated massive reactions and made headlines, although mostly not for good reasons.
With Rowling reportedly involved in the development, considering the criticisms she received surrounding her remarks against the trans community, some were already denouncing the reboot even before its release. However, with nostalgia proving to be an effective marketing ploy, it would not be surprising if the series will end up performing favorably well.
Other details about the series are still under wraps, given that it is still in its early phase of development. Apart from the Harry Potter series reboot, David recently embarked on another revival, with the upcoming film Wonka — starring Timothée Chalamet as the bizarre chocolatier — set to hit theaters on December 15, 2023.
