The Disney Plus series Ahsoka saw the titular heroine using Psychometry to find what happened to the star map indicating Pathway to Peridea. But what is Psychometry? Are there other Jedi who can use it? Here’s what you need to know.
What’s Psychometry in Star Wars?
Psychometry allows a Jedi to sense the history and emotions of objects or people by touching them.
As seen in Ahsoka episode 5, the titular heroine touched the destroyed star map and heard what Baylan Skoll told Sabine Wren to convince her to join him (more or less willingly) on his journey to Peridea. The power manifested after Ahsoka’s journey in the World Between Worlds and might be related to her new status as Ahsoka the White.
Ahsoka heard their words as if she was present when they spoke, although some time had passed since that conversation and when Ahsoka picked up the star map. The former Jedi Padawan then decided to travel to Peridea herself and save Sabine from Skoll and the other villains.
Which Jedi can use Psychometry?
Rey, Quinlan Vos, Cal Kestis, and Ahsoka Tano are known to use Psychometry.
Ahsoka isn’t the only Jedi who can rely on Psychometry. At the same time, the list of Force sensitives who can use this unique power is relatively short, and it includes Rey Skywalker, Quinlan Vos, Cal Kestis, and, now, Ahsoka. Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos, in particular, was known for his proficiency in Psychometry, which he used to solve various cases and uncover hidden truths. Rey could connect with Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber through Psychometry, as described in The Star Wars Book.
Psychometry came with risks, as the Jedi experienced intense and potentially overwhelming emotions tied to those memories, so the Jedi Order discouraged it. For example, when a Jedi touched a murder weapon, they endured the victim’s fear and the killer’s bloodlust.
