Stranger Things Season 4 raised the bar for television by including a two-and-a-half-hour episode to serve as the finale. The fourth season felt like a blockbuster movie because of its longer episodes and high production value. Shawn Levy, an executive producer and director of the Netflix series, says Stranger Things Season 5 will only expand on size and production established in the fourth season.
“There’s no way to be contiguous with season 4, and not, frankly, expand scale and depth,” Levy said to Total Film magazine about the upcoming fifth season. “It’s major, major, cinematic storytelling that happens to be called a TV series. Stranger Things 5 is as big as any of the biggest movies that we see.”
David Harbour, who stars as Jim Hopper, previously teased Season 5’s “terrific scripts” and how the series continues to raise the bar.
“It’s a hell of an undertaking,” Harbour said. “The set pieces and the things in the scripts that we saw are bigger than anything we’ve done in the past.”
Who is Involved in Stranger Things 5?
Stranger Things 5 will include its large ensemble cast for the final season. Stars include Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Priah Ferguson, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, and Maya Hawke.
Due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, production on the fifth season has been suspended. However, Netflix announced that Linda Hamilton was cast in an undisclosed role, and Prey’s Dan Trachtenberg would direct an episode in the final season.
Stranger Things is created and executive produced by The Duffer Brothers. Production is expected to resume sometime in 2024 after the conclusion of the strikes.
