For those wondering what was meant by the seed metaphor, here is the I Am Groot season 2 ending explained. This details what exactly was meant by the seed and what happens after it is destroyed.

I Am Groot Season 2 Ending Explained

What happened at the end of I Am Groot season 2?

At the end of I Am Groot season 2, Groot fails to save the seed from burning in the lava. The Watcher is devastated and believes that all is lost, that is until he realizes that the seed is a metaphor for Groot.

In a hilarious (for the audience) and frustrating (for The Watcher) scene, we are treated to Groot playing with a little sticky ball and defacing ancient artifacts by drawing on them.

Groot is totally oblivious to the importance of the seed within and is purely focused on playing with his ball. It’s only when the ball gets stuck on the seed that he finally focuses on jumping across lava to get to it. However, after recovering his ball, he leaves the seed to burn and be destroyed.

What does the seed metaphor mean in I Am Groot season 2?

The seed metaphor in I Am Groot season 2 refers to Groot.

While The Watcher believes that it is a literal seed that holds the key to happiness in the universe, he eventually comes to the realization that it is Groot himself who is the “seed” and that the prophecy is talking about a metaphorical seed.

As Groot emerges from the rubble, a seedling is spotted on the top of his head. This is what triggers The Watcher into realizing that Groot is the seed and it’s him that will bring happiness to the universe.
