A new documentary will cover Jean-Luc Godard‘s assisted suicide.
Godard was a famous French-Swiss film director who served as one of the pioneers of the French New Wave. He directed films such as Breathless, Pierrot le Fou, and Vivre Sa Vie. Highly regarded as one of the most influential directors of all time, Godard died on September 13, 2022, by assisted suicide. He was 91 at the time of his death.
Mitra Farahani, an Iranian filmmaker close to Godard, has a new documentary coming out produced by Écran Noir Productions. “When Jean-Luc Godard left the world on September 13, 2022, it was following a script written by him, voluntary death,” reads the official synopsis (via World of Reel).
“For two years, he had been working on a final film titled Scénario, produced by Écran Noir Productions in co-production with Arte. [The doc] traces the fragile schedule of these last few months of creation. As agony fills the horizon, the work resists to the final limits. The day before his voluntary death, Jean-Luc Godard addresses his last words in front of a camera, the final instructions for an unfinished work.”
