Of David Harbour’s many notable roles throughout his career, one of the most exciting for fans is his portrayal of Red Guardian in Marvel Studios’ Black Widow, as well as its upcoming Thunderbolts film.

Speaking to Total Film, Harbour was asked about his character and said that he’s grown fond of both the character and is excited about the character dynamics that will stem from Florence Pugh’s Yelena to Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent.
“I really like him,” said Harbour of Red Guardian. “and I love Florence [Pugh] as Yelena [also in Thunderbolts]. And then you throw in Wyatt [Russell, as U.S. Agent] from Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Sebastian [Stan, reprising Bucky Barnes]. You have all these great, colorful characters. I’m really excited for that movie.”
When it comes to the future of Red Guardian, Harbour has no issue playing the character as many times as asked. In fact, Harbour said, he “can’t wait” to keep playing him and discovering different layers.
“I do. I love Red Guardian,” Harbour said. “I can’t wait to pull back the layers. The great thing about him is that he’s not very well-defined in the comics, like some of the other Marvel superheroes. So we can play with him in a different way, and be surprising and unexpected.”
