According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal 1440 Entertainment is currently in the process of developing another installment to the sex comedy franchise American Pie. The project hails from actor-filmmaker Sujata Day, who’s best known for her recurring role as Sarah in the HBO comedy-drama series Insecure.

Further details about the new American Pie movie are still being kept under wraps but is being described as a fresh new take on the sex comedy franchise. The project is based on the original pitch by Sujata Day, who is also attached to write and develop the untitled American Pie movie.
The franchise first started in 1999, with the first one directed by Paul Weitz. The original coming-of-age comedy starred Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Seann William Scott, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, and Eugene Levy. Thanks to its box office success with a worldwide gross of over $230 million, it spawned three more direct sequels featuring the original cast along with five direct-to-DVD spin-offs.

Day has made one-episode appearances in a number of hit shows including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 7th Heaven, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Desperate Housewives. She made her feature directorial debut in 2020 with the comedy-drama Definition Please.
