Its current theatrical release date will pit the all-star project against another high-profile film in the form of George Miller’s long-in-development Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth.
IF (formerly titled Imaginary Friends) is being written and directed by John Krasinski (A Quiet Place films), based on his original idea about a child’s journey in rediscovering their imagination.
Joining him and Reynolds are The Office alum Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Indiana Jones 5), and Harry Potter vet Fiona Shaw, along with Minari breakout Alan Kim, Cailey Fleming (The Walking Dead), and Oscar winner Louis Gossett Jr. (Watchmen)

The project has been in development since 2019, with Paramount Pictures winning the rights to the project in a bidding war against multiple studios. It will be produced by Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, and Andrew Form through their Sunday Night banner, along with Reynolds for Maximum Effort. George Dewey has also been set as executive producer via Maximum Effort.
