With the release of “The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies,” the fifth episode of The Boys Season 3 is officially out. The events took an unexpected turn after Butcher (Karl Urban) formed an unlikely alliance to pursue his goal of defeating Homelander. The episode also cast some light on what happened to Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and the mysterious facility where he was retried by Butcher and the others in the latest installment.
What Happened After Soldier Boy Returned to New York City?
In Episode 5, Soldier Boy returned to the United States after escaping from the Russian facility where he was hibernated and immediately caused an explosion after losing his coolness. Vought’s original superhero went missing in 1984 and many things changed in the meantime. While walking through the Big Apple, he looked quite puzzled by the Seven’s commercial success in addition to the diversity and inclusivity of his city. What shocked him the most was hearing a Russian song which reactivated the memory of his long captivity in Russia. Immediately, he went ballistic and released the nuclear energy he stored in his chest.
Soldier Boy’s memories of Russia were pretty painful. To no one’s surprise, the official Vought version of events according to which Soldier Boy died in a nuclear meltdown was a lie. In fact, he was captured and studied like a lab rat to discover the source of his invulnerability. The Russians ran tests on his physical structure by shooting him in the mouth, burning his neck with a blowtorch, or forcing him to drink sulfuric acid cocktails.

How Did the Russians Get Soldier Boy?
The Russians captured Soldier Boy only after his own team betrayed him. The World War II veteran had a confrontation with his former love interest, the Crimson Countess, where he learned the harsh truth. Initially, Soldier Boy thought that the enemy paid the Crimson Countess to deliver him, but neither she nor the other team members received any money for their service. In fact, they did it for free since they all hated Soldier Boy. After listening to the Crimson Countess’ confession, Soldier Boy got rid of her with an energy blast.

Following the Crimson Countess’s incineration, Butcher and Soldier Boy teamed up in revenge against Vought. It will be interesting to see the new internal dynamics of The Boys. Mother’s Milk still has some unfinished business with Soldier Boy, that’s why Butcher avoided any interferences in his deal by putting his long-term friend to sleep with some narcotics. The series teased the adversity of Mother’s Milk towards Soldier Boy on several occasions but has never fully dived into what happened so far.
