Rumors of the game getting the movie treatment have floated around for a few months now, but today’s news that Amazon has decided to pick up the project seems to ensure that one is being properly developed. Alongside the powerhouse company, dj2 Entertainment is also attached to the project as producers, and are no strangers to adapting games into other mediums, as they’re currently working on the upcoming shows based on Life is Strange, My Friend Pedro, Disco Elysium, Tomb Raider, and more.
Seven Bucks Productions is also boarding the project in a producer role, and being represented by Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia. Variety’s report notes that Dwayne Johnson could also potentially star in the film, but nothing has been made official as of now.
Writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2) are still attached to adapt the game in script form, and will also serve as executive producers of the film. Josef Fares and Oskar Wolontis of Hazelight Studios (the creators of the game) will be attached to the film in an executive producer role as well, although it’s unknown if they’ll have any further input on the movie.

Similar to the title it’s based on, It Takes Two will tell the story of May and Cody, a couple going through a divorce that has their minds teleported into two dolls that their daughter made. Once inside the dolls, the couple must go on an adventure to find their way back into their bodies, while also learning more about themselves and their relationship along the way. Originally released in 2021, It Takes Two launched to extremely positive reviews and went on to win a variety of awards, including Game of the Year at the 2021 Game Awards.
