Marvel’s Avengers is just about get Black Panther as a playable character, but players are still looking forward to the hero that was announced in August 2020. News about Spider-Man has been slim ever since; Crystal Dynamics hasn’t even shown what its incarnation of the web slinger will look like. However, it appears as though the hero is slated for a 2021 release for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game.
In a recent interview with ComingSoon, Senior Game Designer Scott Walters spoke about how the studio was focused on War for Wakanda and that players will hear about the game’s future at a later time. While he didn’t divulge exact details, he said that Spider-Man was still “on track” for a 2021 release.
Right now, our focus is on War for Wakanda,” he said. “That was our capstone for the roadmap that we shared. We’ll definitely have more news coming forward later. As for Spider-Man, we’ve always planned to have that be a 2021 release and we’re still on track for that. We’ll have more announcements later on.”

It’s obviously not an exact date and games are still prone to delays, given the complications from the ongoing pandemic. Marvel’s Avengers has seen its share of delays as well. The game itself was pushed from May 2020 to September and Taking AIM, the free expansion that introduced Kate Bishop, missed its October release date and came out in December. But despite the possibility of a delay, it appears as though Crystal Dynamics is still sticking with 2021.
Crystal Dynamics did not confirm a specific month. Kate Bishop released three months after the base game, Hawkeye came out three months after Kate, and Black Panther will be out five months after Hawkeye. Given that pattern, it appears as though it takes the team around three or so months to create a hero.
