According to Variety, MCU vet Cobie Smulders has officially signed on to join the cast of FX’s upcoming third installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology drama Impeachment: American Crime Story. Smulders will be replacing Emmy nominee Betty Gilpin for the role of Ann Coulter, the conservative media specialist who was the legal adviser for Paula Jones’ attorneys, who represented Jones in her sexual harassment suit against Bill Clinton. After a year of preparing for character, the GLOW star was forced to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts caused by the ongoing pandemic.

Smulders is best known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky in the iconic CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which ran on-air for nine seasons from 2005-2014. She also recently starred in the ABC crime drama Stumptown, which was canceled after one season due to production delays caused by the pandemic. She is also set to reprise her MCU role as Maria Hill in Disney+’s upcoming MCU animated series What If…?
