Where there’s smoke there is fire, and Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is launching later this year on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The enhanced version of last year’s hit game by Sucker Punch will include a new expansion and cost $69.99 on PS5 and $59.99 on PS4. It releases August 20 on both platforms.

As was rumored, the new expansion will focus on Iki island, which was also invaded by Mongols. Jin’s journey will take him to the island and he finds himself “caught up in events with deeply personal stakes that will force him to relive some traumatic moments from his past.” The island will include new characters, missions, and “tons of new content including brand new environments to explore, new armor for Jin as well as his horse, new mini-games, new techniques, new enemy types, and much more. There are even new animals to pet!”
PlayStation 5 owners will get some exclusive Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut features as well, which explains the $10 surcharge. Thanks to Sony’s latest console being able to render cinematics in real-time, cutscenes in Ghost of Tsushima and on Iki Island on PS5 will now offer lip sync for Japanese voiceover rather than just English. It will also feature haptic feedback and take advantage of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers as well. Other bonuses include “enhancements to 3D audio on PS5, as well as drastically improved load times, 4K resolution options and framerates targeting 60 FPS.”

Save games will transfer and the new Iki Island content becomes available during Act 2 of the main story. Other additions include Ghost of Tsushima: Legends updates, new photo mode options, additional accessibility settings (including controller remapping and target lock-on), and the ability to hide your quiver.
Those that already own Ghost of Tsushima on PlayStation 4 can pre-order an upgrade to the PS4 version of the Director’s Cut for $19.99. Meanwhile, those that want to upgrade to the PS5 version can upgrade for an additional $9.99 or do an upgrade from the base game for $29.99.
