Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have finally released the official trailer for Michael Chaves’ highly-anticipated The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, featuring the darkest chapter in James Wan’s horror cinematic universe. The video provides us our first look at the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s Ed and Lorraine Warren as they must face a different kind of evil that they haven’t encountered before. The film is scheduled to make its simultaneous debut in theaters and on HBO Max on June 4. Check out the video in the player below, along with the first poster!
In a recent interview with IGN, Chaves has opened up about the Conjuring 3, teasing it as the “biggest” and “darkest” installment ever. He also went on to confirm that David Fincher’s film had inspired the new film’s screenplay.
“In a lot of ways, this is the biggest Conjuring movie,” Chaves said. “I showed the final cut to [star] Vera [Farmiga] and her husband, and they agreed, and they were like, ‘This is the darkest Conjuring movie.’ It digs into some really dark material. This is definitely a case where there’s real consequence, there’s real victims.
He added, “One of the things that [series creator] James [Wan] and I connected on while making The Curse of La Llorona was sharing a lot of the same favorite movies, and one of them is Se7en,” says the director. “We both love that movie, and so when he came to me with this script, he basically was like, ‘It’s Se7en, but in the Conjuring universe.’ And he knew that was like catnip for me.”

The threequel tells the chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Described as one of the most sensational cases from their files, the film will start with a fight for the soul of a young boy, which then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It sees the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, who last appeared in 2019’s Annabelle Comes Home. The film will also feature Ruairi O’Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard.
