Nearly two weeks after word first broke that the titular hero’s father would be recast and an actress had been found to portray his mother, DC Extended Universe’s The Flash has found its replacement for Billy Crudup as Henry Allen in the form of Golden Globe nominee Ron Livingston (A Million Little Things), according to Variety.

Word first broke mid-March that Maribel Verdú (Pan’s Labyrinth) had signed on to star as Nora Allen, the murdered mother of Ezra Miller’s Barry, while the studio was looking to recast the role of Henry as Crudup had to drop out of the project due to a scheduling conflict with his work on the second season of Apple’s The Morning Show, on which he won an Emmy, given that traveling overseas and the quarantines following such would prevent him from doing both.
Both of their castings came on the heels of Kiersey Clemons (Dope) being confirmed to return to her role of love interest Iris West in the film and on-the-rise star Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) signing on to star as Supergirl, becoming only the second actress to ever portray the character on the big screen. Clemons’ portrayal of West had originally been cut from the DCEU crossover blockbuster Justice League after directorial duties were passed from Zack Snyder to Joss Whedon, though the footage was restored in the recently-released Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Clemons’ official casting came a month after on-the-rise star Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) joined the cast in the role of Supergirl, becoming only the second actress to ever portray the character on the big screen. Clemons previously portrayed West in the DC Extended Universe crossover Justice League but saw her role cut when directing duties were handed over to Joss Whedon after Zack Snyder’s departure from the project. That footage has been restored in the director’s cut of the film, which is set to debut on HBO Max on March 18, while filming is set to begin on the Ezra Miller-led outing in April in London.
Warner Bros. first revealed that their Flash film would be inspired by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s Flashpoint comic as early as 2017, even going so far as to change the project’s title to Flashpoint, but after last year’s announcement of its 2022 release date, it was subsequently changed over to its current title.
While it’s currently unknown exactly how the film will address Johns and Kubert’s arc, it wouldn’t be the first time it has been seen on screen after the 2013 animated film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox as well as the third season of The CW’s eponymous series adapting the arc, and some are speculating that WB and DC Films will be utilizing the story to fix any continuity issues within the overall franchise.

Set to be directed by IT‘s Andy Muschietti, the latest screenplay is being written by Christina Hodson which will still cover the famous Flashpoint storyline. It was confirmed that Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck would be reprising their respective versions of Bruce Wayne/Batman for the film, though the former recently opened up in an interview that given his busy schedule and fears regarding the global pandemic he’s now uncertain about his return.
The Ezra Miller-led Flash movie is now scheduled to be released on November 4, 2022. Miller first portrayed the scarlet speedster in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League and most recently was seen in HBO Max’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Filming is slated to begin on the solo
