The Umbrella Academy: Elliot Page Will Continue to Play Vanya Hargreeves in Season 3
Following Elliot Page’s heartfelt announcement yesterday, Variety brings words that the Golden Globe-nominated actor will continue to portray the role of Vanya Hargreeves in the upcoming third season of Netflix’s hit superhero series The Umbrella Academy. The outlet’s sources noted that there are currently no plans of changing his character’s gender.

This confirmation comes after people got curious about the future of the character, with some even suggesting that Vanya should be recast. GLAAD immediately commented on the issue, pushing back the notion the Trans actors can’t play cisgender characters.
“Trans actors can and do play both trans and cisgender characters. I’m sure Elliot will continue to be brilliant in Umbrella Academy and many different types of roles in the future,” GLAAD’s director of transgender media, Nick Adams said in a statement.
Yesterday, Page took to his social media to officially announce that he is a non-binary transgender person, going by the pronouns of he/they. The response to his coming out was overwhelmingly positive with Netflix showing their support for the Juno star by immediately starting the process of updating Page’s name on all the titles he is involved with that are available in the streaming service.
So proud of our superhero! WE LOVE YOU ELLIOT! Can’t wait to see you return in season 3!

In Season 2, Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right – the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which – spoiler alert! – turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?).
Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.
The series stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, Mary J. Blige, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe, and Kate Walsh.
