The CW’s Supergirl to End with Season 6

The CW’s Supergirl will be coming to an end following its upcoming sixth season, the network, Warner Bros. Television, and Berlanti Productions announced (via Variety). Production on Season 6 is expected to begin later this month, with the outlet noting writers have begun developing storylines for the series’ final 20 episodes.

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow ‘Winn’ Schott, Katie McGrath (Merlin) as Lena Luthor, Jess Rath as Brainiac 5, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw/J’onn J’onnz. Season 5 also starred Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair, and special guest star Jon Cryer.

Supergirl Season 5 had its season finale on May 17, 2020, and featured Benoist’s directorial debut. The network is planning to premiere the sixth and final season of the series sometime in 2021.

Based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner, Jessica Queller, and Rob Wright. Supergirl is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
