Gerard Butler is set to star in Alcon Entertainment’s upcoming remake of Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 action-thriller Point Break, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. The new version is to be directed by Ericson Core (Invincible).
The new Point Break is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring.
Butler will take the role of Bodhi, played in the Bigelow version by the late Patrick Swayze. The 300 star last year headlined Olympus Has Fallen and is set to return for that film’s upcoming sequel, London Has Fallen.
Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson will produce along with Michael DeLuca, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer, who also wrote the screenplay. RGM Media principal Devesh Chetty and investor John McMurrick, Chairman of Marloss Entertainment, will serve as Executive Producers.
