With Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls) and Mario Lopez (The X Factor) already set to reprise their iconic Saved by the Bell roles for the upcoming reboot at NBC’s forthcoming streaming service Peacock, John Michael Higgins (Pitch Perfect) has joined the cast as the new principal of Bayside, according to TheWrap.

Higgins is set to star as Principal Toddman, successor to Dennis Haskins’ Principal Richard Belding, who was the enemy to Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s Zack Morris in the original series that ran from 1989 to 1993 on NBC, as well as its spinoffs. The official description for the character says, “the ‘beleaguered’ Toddman who is constantly being pranked by his privileged students and yelled at by their entitled parents. But this all changes when Bayside gets an influx of new, low-income students and Toddman gets a second chance to really make a difference.”
Lopez and Berkley will officially reprise their roles for the new series which has Tracey Wigfield attached as writer and executive prodocuer. Peacock is reportedly in talks with other cast members like Gosselaar to also return for the series, which seems likely considering the series’ offical logline.
“When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.”

Peacock will launch in April of 2020 with both an advertising and subscription model available at launch. Other NBCUniversal shows set to stream on the service include Bates Motel, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cheers, Chrisley Knows Best, Covert Affairs, Downton Abbey, Everybody Loves Raymond, Frasier, Friday Night Lights, House, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, The King of Queens, Married … with Children, Monk, Parks and Recreation (exclusive, available Oct. 2020), Parenthood, Psych, The Real Housewives, Royal Pains, Saturday Night Live, Superstore, 30 Rock, Top Chef, and Will & Grace.
