Animator Genndy Tartakovsky is returning to Cartoon Network. The Samurai Jack creator’s new animated series, Primal, has been picked up by Adult Swim.
The series is about the unlikely friendship between a dinosaur on the brink his species’ extinction, and a caveman at the dawn of his species’ evolution, who become each other’s only hope for survival in a primitive landscape. They’re the original odd couple!
Tartakovsky is the Emmy-winning creator of such hit animated series like Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack. He also directed the original animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars, as well as directed all three Hotel Transylvania movies, and co-wrote the third, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Given that the three films have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, a fourth entry in the series was announced in February.
Now, Tartakovsky is ready to return to the small screen where it all began, with Primal allowing him to bask in the visually unique worlds and intricate storytelling that he’d become known for across his multitude of projects over the years.
Primal is expected to premiere on Adult Swim sometime this fall, though no date has been announced.
