Director S. Craig Zahler is known for his… distinctive directorial style. While his films are often squirmingly brutal, he has an uncanny ability to build tension through long takes that hang anxiously on the actors. That’s the case here for the trailer for Zahler’s latest, the appropriately-titled Dragged Across Concrete, which was debuted by Collider earlier today.
The film stars Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn as two crooked police detectives who find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics is leaked to the media. With little money and no options, the embittered policemen descend into the criminal underworld and find more than they wanted waiting in the shadows. While the trailer withholds any over-the-top brutality, it also has a bit of a lighter tone overall, with Gibson and Vaughn squabbling throughout.
Zahler made his big-screen debut in 2015 with his absolutely savage western Bone Tomahawk. Now, Dragged Across Concrete marks a reunion for Zahler and several actors who appeared in his 2017 prison drama Brawl in Cell Block 99, including Vaughn, Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter), Don Johnson (Machete), and horror legend Udo Kier.
Dragged Across Concrete will pummel its way into theaters and On-Demand starting March 22.
