FX is developing the cult drama Piety, according to Deadline. Writer Wes Brown wrote the character-driven crime story centered around a cult in the American West on spec, which was picked up by Noah Hawley and his 26 Keys Productions company as part of his overall development deal with FX Productions. Brown most recently worked as a co-producer on AMC’s Preacher.
A prolific showrunner, Hawley is currently running two of the most talked-about series on TV. These include his small-screen adaptation of the Coen’ Brothers’ 1995 crime drama Fargo, which was just renewed for a fourth season. He’s also behind the X-Men spinoff Legion, a reality-warping look into the mind of Haller (Dan Stevens), a diagnosed schizophrenic with powerful telepathic abilities. Legion was given a third season earlier this summer. Both series air on FX.

In addition to his TV work, Hawley will also be directing the upcoming star-studded feature Pale Blue Dot, a drama that centers on a married astronaut (Natalie Portman) who returns to Earth after a mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut (Jon Hamm). She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her husband (Dan Stevens) — a condition that can afflict those who spend a long time in space — and when her lover beings another affair with an astronaut trainee (Zazie Beetz), the bottom drops out.
