In a dystopian setting, the middle class has completely vanished dividing Weird City into two sections: Above the Line (The Haves), and Below the Line (The Have Nots). Presiding over the denizens of the city is the strange and mysterious Dr. Negari, who weaves all of our stories together. Each episode is a topic that pertains to present day life in America and the world: social media addiction, online dating, fitness obsession, etc.. WEIRD CITY captures the unease of modern urban living, in a bizarre and peculiar lens.

The series is consists of a star-studded ensemble which includes Dylan O’Brien (Maze Runner), Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians), Michael Cera (Juno), Rosario Dawson (Jane the Virgin), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Ed O’Neil (Modern Family), Hannah Simone (New Girl), Gillian Jacobs (Community), Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black), Malcolm Barrett (Timeless), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Yvette Nicole Brown (The Lady and the Tramp), Trevor Jackson (Grown-ish), Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Levar Burton (Star Trek), and Sara Gilbert (The Conners).

Weird City is written and co-created by Peele and former Key & Peele writer Charlie Sanders. The series will be set in the not-so-distant future metropolis of Weird. Even though it is on a futuristic setting, every story of the series is expected to reflect on the social issues of the present society, which could only be told through the elements of comedy and sci-fi. Later on, Peele also described the show as a “series of comedy driven twisted-ass science fiction stories that take place in a world close to ours but just a little bit off.”

Peele’s own production company, Monkeypaw Productions will be teaming up with Mosaic, Sonar Entertainment and Raskal Productions to produce the anthology series. Emmy-winning director Adam Bernstein (Scrubs, 30 rock, Breaking Bad) is set to direct the first two episodes. He will also serve as an executive producer alongside Peele, Sanders, Win Rosenfeld (Monkeypaw), Sam Hansen and Jimmy Miller (Mosaic) , Tom Lesinski and Jenna Santoianni (Sonar), Keith Raskin and Linda Morel (Raskal) and Jose Molina, who is also Weird City’s showrunner.
