Sexy Beast Prequel TV Series is In Development

Director Jonathan Glazer’s cult classic crime film, Sexy Beast, probably wasn’t designed to be more than a one-off movie, but that’s not going to stop Paramount from turning it into a television show. According to Deadline, Anonymous Content and Paramount Television are developing a Sexy Beast prequel TV series that will expand upon the origins of the three main characters from the movie.

Within the first movie, Ben Kingsley played Don Logan, an aging gangster who forced his former associate, Gal Dove (Ray Winstone), to come out of retirement to pull off a heist for Teddy Bass (Ian McShane), a powerful crime boss. The proposed prequel will be set in the ’90s when Gal and Don were partners working for Teddy. Deadline’s description of the series suggests that Gal will meet his future wife, DeeDee, while “descending into the seductive madness of the London criminal world during the vibrant and volatile 1990’s.”

The Sopranos and Rescue Me veteran Michael Caleco has been signed to write the Sexy Beast TV series, while serving as an executive producer alongside Louis Mellis and David Scinto, the screenwriting duo behind the original film. There isn’t currently a network attached to this project, but Paramount TV and Anonymous Content are expected to shop it around to cable networks and streaming services.
