The popular podcast Welcome to Night Vale is set to become a series at FX
The podcast and book series Welcome to Night Vale is set to become a television series at FX, according to Deadline. The cable network has entered into a deal with Sony Pictures Television for a series based on the podcast, with Gennifer Hutchinson adapting for television. Hutchinson will also executive produce the series for Sony Pictures Television.
The podcast is set in the fictional town of Night Vale and the podcast reported on the strange things that go on in the town. The series was created in 2012 by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. Fink and Cranor who also author the book series, as well as the series “It Devours!,” will serve as executive producers on the series.
“We’ve never met anyone in the industry who understands our world and approach to storytelling better than Gennifer does,” said Fink and Cranor told the site. “We are lucky to be working with her, as well as FX – a network with a long history of creating excellent television.”
The Welcome to Night Vale podcast is a bimonthly event with news from the town, which is set “somewhere in the Southwestern United States.” In October 2013, Welcome to Night Vale started doing live shows, with a West Coast tour through 2014. There have been a number of guest stars on the podcast including Wil Wheaton, Retta, Mara Wilson, James Urbaniak, Felicia Day, Molly Quinn and Jasika Nicole. The podcast has spawned script books based on the first and second seasons. Harper Perennial, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, has signed up Fink and Cranor for new script books for the third and fourth seasons, according to the site.
