Planet Earth II premieres Saturday, February 18 on AMC, SundanceTV and BBC America and we’re getting a peek at some of the astounding new footage of our world. USA Today debuted three new trailers for the series with some famous narrators. This follow-up to 2006’s Planet Earth is a six-part series “celebrating the planet, its creatures and the universal stories that unite and transcend.” The first trailer is narrated by Tom Hiddleston (Thor), the second by Robert Redford (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid), and the third by Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black).
After Planet Earth II premieres on February 18, the remaining five episodes will be broadcast on the following Saturdays. Each trailer will air on a different network owned by AMC Networks. Hiddleston voices the trailer that will be shown on AMC. As you may recall, Hiddleston was a part of the network’s show The Night Manager. The second trailer will be shown on SundanceTV, founded by Redford. Maslany’s trailer will be shown on BBC America, where she starred in Orphan Black. You can watch all three below. They’re the same trailer with different voiceovers.
Planet Earth II will be the first television series produced by the BBC in Ultra-high-definition (4K). The first series was narrated by Sir David Attenborough, who returns for Planet Earth II. According to BBC America, “A decade ago, the landmark television series Planet Earth redefined natural history filmmaking, giving us the ultimate portrait of life on Earth. Planet Earth II, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, will reveal our planet from a completely new perspective, using significant advances in both filming technology and our understanding of the natural world.”
