TV Insider reports that the Legends of Tomorrow will be gaining a new team member in the form of the superhero Vixen in Season 2. There’s a catch, however; actress Megalyn Echikunwoke will not be reprising her role as Mari McCabe for the series. Instead, thanks to Rip Hunter’s time-traveling escapades, an earlier version of the character from the past will be joining the team who they reveal has a historical connection to the modern day version of the character. The site does note that Echikunwoke will still provide the voice for Vixen in the animated series on CW Seed.
In the closing minutes of the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 1 finale, the team is preparing to enter their time-traveling ship, The Waverider, when another Waverider appears in the sky above them and crashes to the ground. A lone survivor exits from the wreckage, making the claim that if they got on that ship they’d all die and that he was sent back by Heat Wave himself, Mick Rory. That mystery man reveals himself as Rex Tyler (the superhero Hourman), a member of the Justice Society of America. It remains to be seen if this new Vixen will be a member of the JSA as well, but anything is possible in the series.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The ATOM, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary, Victor Garber and Franz Drameh as Professor Martin Stein & Jefferson “Jax” Jackson/Firestorm, and Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave. Wentworth Miller, who plays Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, will no longer appear as a series regular on the show but has instead signed a new deal with Warner Bros. TV allowing him to appear across all of their DC series on The CW.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer, Chris Fedak and Sarah Schechter.
