Michelle Veintimilla will play a new take on the Batman villain Firefly
Last week, word broke that FOX had set actor Leo Fitzpatrick for a recurring role on “Gotham” season two as part of an arsonist gang. We speculated at the time that the gang might have ties to the super villain Firefly and, according to a report today at TV Line, that’s exactly the direction “Gotham” is headed in. The outlet brings word that actress Michelle Veintimilla will offer a new, female take on the DC Comics foe.
“Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business,” reads the official description of the new Firefly. “When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her.”
Created by France Herron and Dick Sprang, Firefly first appeared in 1952’s “Detective Comics” #184. The first Firefly was named Garfield Lynns. A VFX artist, Lynns made use of his theatrical talents to fake all sorts of lighting tricks that helped him in robberies. Seven years later, Firefly was reinvented by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff as Ted Carson, an explosives expert willing to do anything to gain back the family fortune he lost gambling.
“Gotham” is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), “Gotham” follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time. The series stars Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Erin Richards, David Mazouz, Camren Bicondova, Zabryna Guevara, Cory Michael Smith, Victoria Cartagena, Andrew Stewart Jones, and John Doman. Newcomers for the second season include Natalie Alyn Lind, Jessica Lucas, James Frain, and Michael Chiklis.
“Gotham” will return to FOX on Monday, September 21.
