CS Video: Sit Down with the Criminal Cast

CS sits down with Criminal cast members Kevin Costner and Gary Oldman as well as director Ariel Vroman

Arriving in theaters this Friday is a new high concept thriller from The Iceman director Ariel Vroman. Scripted by Douglas Cook and David Weisberg, the Criminal cast is headlined by Kevin Costner. The two-time Academy Award winner stars as Jericho Stewart, a death row inmate who, thanks to an undeveloped part of his brain, has no empathy or understanding of the consequences of his often violent actions. That winds up making Jericho the perfect candidate for an innovative procedure wherein the memories of a CIA officer just killed in the line of duty are implanted in his head in the hopes of using the dead man’s knowledge to prevent a pending catastrophic terrorist attack.

ComingSoon.net recently sat down with Costner, his Criminal cast co-star Gary Oldman as well as Vroman for a discussion about Criminal and it’s interesting narrative balance that features Costner’s character as both protagonist and antagonist. Costner is no stranger to playing characters from both sides of the law and, in the below video, he compares his Criminal performance to some past roles, such as his acclaimed performance in Clint Eastwood’s A Perfect World. Oldman, meanwhile, offers his own thoughts on filmic antagonists and explains that there was a point where he was so frustrated always getting cast a villain that he outright refused to play any villains for quite awhile.

From Summit Entertainment and Millennium Films, Criminal opens in theaters on April 15. The film is produced by Chris Bender, Kevin King and J.C. Spink with Jason Bloom, Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman executive producing. The Criminal cast also includes Tommy Lee Jones, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds.
