Spolight’s Tom McCarthy to Direct S-Town Film Adaptation

Spotlight’s Tom McCarthy to direct S-Town film adaptation

Deadline reports that Participant Media has acquired the feature film rights to S-Town, the This American Life podcast spin-off.

Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, The Cobbler) is currently in negotiations to direct the film with Samuel Hunter (The Healing) in talks to pen the script. This American Life will be producing the film.

S-Town began as an investigative journalism podcast from Serial and This American Life, hosted by Brian Reed. It all started out with an e-mail sent by a man named John in 2012. He despised his Alabama town and reached out to Reed and the people at This American Life to have them investigate a potential murder that took place there. After months of correspondence, Reed goes to the town to investigate; however, events transpire that leads Reed on a quest for truth that turns into something much more than they could have ever imagined. The podcast has stirred up some controversy and has polarized many. You can listen to the entire series by clicking here.

Participant Media currently has RBG out in theaters and has no intention of slowing down. They are currently finishing up the sci-fi thriller Captive State, which is set to be released on March 29, 2019.
