The Hollywood Reporter reports that Millennium Films is working on a sequel to their assassin action-comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard titled The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. While casting has not yet been confirmed, it is believed that Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 2) and Samuel L. Jackson (Glass) will be reprising their roles.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is being touted on posters in Cannes and being marketed as “The Good. The Bad. And the Batsh*t cray.”
Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) will likely return to direct the sequel, which currently does not yet have a script available. The Hitman’s Bodyguard was written by Tom O’Connor (Fire with Fire), who is set to pen the screenplay for the sequel. It hasn’t been confirmed yet whether Salma Hayek (How to Be a Latin Lover) will be reprising her role in the sequel, though the title hints that her character may play a key part in the story.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard was a global success, earning $177 million in theaters off of a $30 million budget, as well as topping the U.S. box office for three weeks straight. Millennium Films has a number of other franchise titles also in the works, including The Expendables 4, Rambo V, Angel Has Fallen, and Mechanic 3.
