Marvel Studios‘ Avengers: Infinity War started with a domestic opening day of $106 million, including $39 million from Thursday previews, marking the second-largest domestic first day in history, topping Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($104 million) and trailing Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($119 million). Disney is estimating an opening weekend in the $225 million – $240 million range, good for the second-biggest opening weekend ever behind The Force Awakens‘ $248 million.
Internationally, Avengers: Infinity War has grossed $178.5 million since it started opening overseas on Wednesday. That brings the worldwide total up to $284.5 million through Friday.
Infinity War‘s opening day performance has pushed Disney over the $1 billion mark domestically in record time, 117 days, which is quicker than the previous industry and Disney record of 128 days in 2016.
