Working Title has revealed the official Johnny English 3 release date. The sequel is set to open on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Opening a day later on September 21 are Robin Hood and The House with a Clock in Its Walls. Series star Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean, The Lion King) will reprise his role as the titular character, with David Kerr stepping behind the camera to direct and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) also starring.
The James Bond spoof began with the 2003 film that was actually co-written by Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Casino Royale, Skyfall) and William Davies (How to Train Your Dragon, Twins), telling the story of the bumbling MI-7 agent, Johnny English. The film also starred Ben Miller, Natalie Imbruglia, and John Malkovich. Produced on a budget of just $40 million, the film went on to gross over $160 million at the global box office.
The first sequel arrived eight years later with 2011’s Johnny English Reborn, which matched its predecessor’s global box office take worldwide (but sunk to just $8 million at the domestic box office from the first film’s $28 million haul). The sequel also starred Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Hannibal, American Gods), Dominic West (The Wire, Punisher: War Zone), Rosamund Pike (Pride & Prejudice, Gone Girl), Daniel Kaluuya (Black Mirror, Get Out, Black Panther), and Richard Schiff (The West Wing, The Lost World: Jurassic Park).
