Ben Kingsley is set to play Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann in Operation Finale
Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3, Gandhi) has been cast as Nazi Adolf Eichmann in the upcoming drama Operation Finale, according to Deadline. The MGM film is a drama about the hunt and capture of the Nazi war criminal in Argentina in the 1960s. He’ll play the role opposite Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Inside Llewyn Davis), who will play Peter Malkin, the Mossad member and head of a group of Israeli spies who took him down. Eichmann had murdered Malkin’s sister and her children.
Operation Finale reportedly comes to us from a spec script by Matthew Orton and the film will begin production in Argentina in the fall of this year. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger (La La Land) will produce for Automatik with Isaac and Inspire Entertainment’s Jason Spire. Matt Charman (writer of Bridge of Spies) will executive produce the film.
Adolf Eichmann was the organizer of the transport of Jews to concentration camps in Europe. He escaped to Austria and then to Argentina after WWII. He was captured in Argentina by the Moussad and agents of Shin Bet in a famous raid, after which he was brought to Israel for trial for crimes against humanity. He was sentenced and executed by hanging. Writer, humanitarian and Holocaust survivor Simon Wiesenthal was instrumental in finding the location of Eichmann.
Academy Award-winning actor Kingsley is known for his work in the film Gandhi, for which he took home the Best Actor prize. He’s also been seen in films like Schindler’s List, Shutter Island and Hugo. He was the voice of Bagheera in the recent live-action version of Disney’s The Jungle Book.
