Psychosexual retelling of notorious Lizzie Borden murder case wraps production today
Deep in heart of Savannah, Georgia, the last day of principal photography is currently going down on the newly-announced, fact-based psychological Gothic thriller Lizzie. The film is directed by the man who gave us the OTHER recent horror film called The Boy, Craig William Macneill, and stars Academy Award-nominated actress Chloe Sevigny (#Horror), Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter), Jamey Sheridan (Mick Garris’ The Stand), Kim Dickens (Fear the Walking Dead), Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story) and Jeff Perry (Scandal)
The film is being produced by Liz Destro of Destro Films, Naomi Despres of Artina Films and Chloe Sevigny and co-produced by Josh Bachove. The film was financed by Elizabeth Stillwell and Roxanne Anderson of Powder Hound Pictures and was backed by Ingenious.
Scripted by Bryce Kass, Lizzie is a lurid shocker with an indelible romance at its core. The film explores the events that led up to the notorious murders of the infamous Borden family and reveals the many layers of the strange, fragile woman who stood accused of their brutal murder. When Bridget Sullivan, a young maid, comes to work for the Borden family, Lizzie finds a sympathetic and kindred spirit, and what begins as innocent companionship eventually escalates into attraction, love and bloody vengeance.
40 whacks with an axe indeed. Bewitched’s Elizabeth Montgomery previously played the notorious Lizzie Borden in a stellar and sophisticated TV movie. Christina Ricci also played the character in two TV productions. But this new incarnation of the tale looks far more scintillating and unsettling. We’re excited. More on the film as we get it…
