Joey King will headline Broad Green Pictures’ horror thriller Wish Upon
Broad Green Pictures announced today that Joey King (The Conjuring, Fargo) has signed on to play the lead in the studio’s upcoming horror thriller Wish Upon. The film hails from Annabelle director John Leonetti and was scripted by by Barbara Marshall (The Listener).
Wish Upon begins when 16-year-old misfit Claire (King) finds a magic box that promises a chance at the life she’s always wanted, she never could have guessed that each wish would demand a deadly payment.
“I was mesmerized by Joey’s performance on the set of ‘The Conjuring,'” says Leonetti. “I am looking forward to watching her bring Claire to life in ‘Wish Upon’.”
Wish Upon is being produced by Busted Shark Production’s Sherryl Clark (Viral, Cloverfield). Production is expected to begin in the fall.
Joey King, whose big screen roles range from playing the China Girl Sam Raimi’s Oz The Great and Powerful to young Talia al Ghul in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, starred earlier this year in Roland Emmerich‘s sci-fi disaster movie sequel Independence Day: Resurgence. Among her upcoming projects is New Line‘s remake of the 1978 comedy Going in Style, directed by her Oz co-star Zach Braff. She also previously worked with Braff in the actor/director’s 2004 comedy drama Wish I Was Here.
John Leonetti began his career as a director of photography, working on films such as 1994’s The Mask and 1995’s Mortal Kombat. Leonetti helmed his first big screen feature with the 1997 video game adaptation sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and also helmed the sci-fi horror sequel The Butterfly Effect 2.
