Daisy Ridley is set to headline Lionsgate’s Chaos Walking movie
Lionsgate has today found a star for its Chaos Walking movie. Variety is reporting that Daisy Ridley, best known for playing Rey in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will play the lead role in the big screen adaptation of author Patrick Ness‘ young adult trilogy. Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) has signed on to headline the post-apocalyptic tale, officially described as follows:
Todd Hewitt is the last boy in Prentisstown. But Prentisstown isn’t like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else’s thoughts in a constant, overwhelming, never-ending Noise. There is no privacy. There are no secrets. Or are there? Just one month away from the birthday that will make him a man, Todd unexpectedly stumbles upon a spot of complete silence. Which is impossible. Prentisstown has been lying to him. And now he’s going to have to run…
Robert Zemeckis was originally attached to direct an adaptation back in late 2013. He was planning to focus on the first book in the trilogy, “The Knife of Never Letting Go,” with Charlie Kaufman (Anomalisa, Synecdoche, New York) providing the screenplay. The most recent draft for the Chaos Walking movie, however, hails from Money Monster scribe Jamie Linden.
Doug Davison (who worked with Liman on next year’s Tom Cruise starrer Mena) and Alli Shearmur (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cinderella) are producing Chaos Walking with Zemeckis and his ImageMovers’ partner Jack Rapke remains on board as producer.
In addition to returning for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, Daisy Ridley has plans to headline Bad Robot‘s fantasy romance Kolma.
The Chaos Walking movie will go into production next year. Check back for updates on the project as they become available.
