The Star Wars universe is preparing to expand in a new direction this December with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Some of those new additions, like the Death Troopers and new aliens, have already been revealed; but in the latest episode of The Star Wars Show a new ship from the film was unveiled, The U-Wing Fighter!
“The U-Wing is a new ship in the Star Wars universe,” Matt Martin, Creative Executive of the Lucasfilm Story Group revealed. “It’s a troop transport and gunship. So it’s there to bring in rebel troops to heavy fire zones and get out as quickly as possible…The wings move depending on the situation and it’s there to both drop off troops and provide air support.”
You can check out the first images of the U-Wing in the gallery and see the full episode in the player below (with the U-Wing coverage beginning at the 1:20 mark).
In other Rogue One news, The Hollywood Reporter brings word on the behind-the-scenes work for the film revealing that Tony Gilroy, previously reported as heavily involved in the reshoots of the film, has taken on a bigger role in the editing of the film. Director Gareth Edwards is still involved, however, as their relationship is described as very collaborative.
Rogue One tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. Felicity Jones leads the cast as Jyn Erso alongside Mads Mikklesen who plays her father, Galen Erso. Diego Luna (Milk) stars as Captain Cassian Andor with Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade II) as the blind spiritual warrior Chirrut Imwe, Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly, Devils on the Doorstep) as his heavily armored best friend Baze Malbus,, Alan Tudyk (Firefly) as the droid K-2SO, Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Four Lions) as the Rebel pilot Bodhi Rook, plus Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) as Saw Gerrera, a character first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline, Mississippi Grind) as the film’s main antagonist, Director Orson Krennic.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set for release on December 16, 2016.
