J.J. Abrams says it’s no accident Luke Skywalker is missing from marketing
We’re less than two months away from the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and director J.J. Abrams opened up to The AP about being in the homestretch of the film’s post-production process in a new interview.
“The visual effects process goes on for so long, my guess is that we’ll probably be doing visual effects for the next three or four weeks even though the cut will be done before then. We’re in the editing room, and you know working on the cut, going over visual effects and doing reviews. We still have another scoring session with John Williams, who is a god when it comes to music, and so it’s been an ongoing surreal experience and I just cannot wait for the movie to be out in the world.”
Abrams also opened up about the reaction to the trailer, saying:
“We were all thrilled that the trailer was seen and embraced, especially people who were saying they’re not even really fans of Star Wars but they’re interested in seeing this thing now and it’s a testament to all the amazing work that this cast and crew have done, and the studio in rolling out the movie the way they have.”
In addition, the subject of the mostly-missing Luke Skywalker from the marketing materials was brought up, which the master of the mystery box says was deliberate.
“These are good questions to be asking, I can’t wait for you to find out the reason… It’s no accident.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and features a new generation of swashbuckling heroes and shadowy villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi.
Starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou, the J.J. Abrams-directed film will debut in theaters on December 18, 2015.
