The Guest’s Dan Stevens has joined the cast of Nacho Vigalondo’s Kaiju actioner, Colossal
Dan Stevens (The Guest, “Downton Abbey”) is joining the cast of Nacho Vigalondo‘s upcoming Kaiju actioner Colossal, Variety reports. Stevens joins previously-announced stars Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses, We’re the Millers), Tim Blake Nelson (Fantastic Four, O Brother, Where Art Thou?) and Austin Stowell (Whiplash, Bridge of Spies) opposite Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables, Interstellar) in the leading role.
Colossal, which has been likened in tone to “Godzilla meets Lost in Translation,” is also scripted by Vigalondo, the filmmaker responsible for genre fare like the acclaimed sci-fi thriller Timecrimes and the stylish Open Windows. Told entirely in real time from the point of view of a woman’s computer desktop, Open Windows stars Sasha Grey and Elijah Wood.
Colossal follows Hathaway as Gloria, a woman living in New York who, after breaking up with her boyfriend (Stevens), moves back home. It’s there that she finds out that she has some kind of psychic link to a gigantic monster that is terrorizing Seoul. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.
Dan Stevens can be seen coming up in Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action take on Beauty and the Beast. The film stars Emma Watson (Harry Potter franchise, This is the End) as the former title character with Stevens set to play the latter. Look for it to hit theaters March 17, 2017.
Colossal, financed by Voltage pictures, is currently filming in Vancouver with Nahikari Ipiña producing.
