‘Ant-Man’ Cast has Advice for the New Spider-Man

Marvel is in Atlanta right now about half-way through filming Captain America: Civil War, but talk as of right now isn’t about Captain America. The talk isn’t even about Robert Downey Jr. co-starring in the film as Iron Man. Nope, the talk is all about Tom Holland who was just cast as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. We don’t know exactly how much of a role Spider-Man plays in Civil War, but we know this will be the first time we see the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a result, all eyes are going to be on Tom Holland, and IGN spoke to the cast of Marvel’s Ant-Man to see if they might have some advice for him.

Michael Peña, who plays Luis in the film, says, “I think it’s just, like, being relatable. I think Tobey Maguire did an absolutely fantastic job where he just played like a regular guy and not some movie star.”

An actor who’s had his fair share of big time roles, Michael Douglas, also had some words to say, “You’re with as good a team as possible.” Douglas plays legendary Marvel character Hank Pym, also known as the original Ant-Man in the film. He finishes by saying, “Enjoy the ride!”

The cast member that Holland would probably be able to relate most to is Paul Rudd, who stars as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man. Unfortunately, Rudd isn’t really ready to answer, “I’m still seeking out advice myself so I don’t know if I’m the best guy to ask.” He goes on to refer to a conversation he had with Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) about what to expect starring in a Marvel Studios film. Pratt told him, “It’s amazing and go with it. Get ready for the ride.”

Perhaps the most practical advice comes from Evangeline Lilly. She says, “If he’s never been to [San Diego] Comic-Con, put on a costume and go in and cruise around because… these are going to be your big fans.” As an actor who starred in Comic-Con favorites, “Lost” and the Hobbit film series, she knows a little bit about what to expect.

Judging by all the comments, it seems the best advice is to trust in your team and to just have fun with the character. Not only is Holland playing one of the most iconic comic characters of all time, he’s following in the footsteps of two accomplished actors in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Those are big shoes to fill.

The world will see Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War when it’s released on May 6, 2016.
