Spider-Man Script to be Written by the Vacation Directors

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein to write the Spider-Man script

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are in talks to write the Spider-Man script, according to THR. Daley and Goldstein were actually among the finalists for the Spidey directing job before it went to Jon Watts (Cop Car). The duo’s Vacation, which they wrote and are making their directorial debut on, will open in theaters on July 29. They previously worked on Horrible Bosses and its sequel, as well as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

In June, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced that, following a lengthy casting process, actor Tom Holland (The ImpossibleIn the Heart of the Sea) will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in their next Spider-Man film, which is set to hit theaters on July 28. 2017.

Joining Holland in the cast is Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, who is expected to appear with Holland first in next year’s Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel and Sony Pictures, and producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal conducted an extensive search for both Holland and the director. The studios and producers were impressed by Holland’s performances in The Impossible, “Wolf Hall,” and the upcoming In the Heart of the Sea, and by a series of complex screen tests. Following Marvel’s tradition of working with the brightest next wave of directors, Watts also went through multiple meetings with Feige, Pascal, and the studio, before winning the job.

Sony Pictures will finance and release worldwide the next installment of the $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, in a film co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the Web-Slinger.
