Ellen Page will star in the female soldier drama Lioness
Ellen Page (Juno, Inception) is attached to star in the drama Lioness, based on a true story, written by Rosalind Ross (“Matador”), and to be produced by James Dahl (The End of the Tour). Page will play Leslie Martz, a U.S. Marine determined to serve her country in the same way as her male counterparts.
Two years after completing her tour of duty, Leslie is re-deployed and sent to Afghanistan as a leader of a Female Engagement Team (FET)—an evolution of the Lioness program she was originally a part of. Through befriending and aiding the Afghan women, she realizes her gender is actually her biggest asset in her mission to takedown key Taliban insurgents.
Lioness is an intimate portrayal of a servicewoman waging war for the dignity of the Afghan woman, while contending with her own deprivation of it. It is the story of courage against prejudice, conscience against duty, and love against circumstance, humanizing hero and enemy alike.
Ellen Page can next be seen in Freeheld, opposite Julianne Moore and Michael Shannon, which Lionsgate will release on October 2nd. She is currently filming Tallulah opposite Allison Janney.
