The satiric take on the music industry will focus on a rapper named Conner (Samberg) whose only recourse after his solo album bombs is to rejoin his old boy band. Meadows will play Harry, Conner’s upbeat and overworked manager, while Poots will play Samberg’s love interest.
Conner4real will be written by the Lonely Island trio and co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone for Universal Pictures, with Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids, Trainwreck) and Rodney Rothman (Get Him to the Greek, 22 Jump Street) producing.
Poots will next be seen in Peter Bogdanovich’s throwback screwball comedy She’s Funny That Way and Terrence Malick’s existential drama Knight of Cups, along with a co-starring role opposite Luke Wilson in the Showtime pilot “Roadies.” Meadows, who worked with Apatow on Walk Hard and this summer’s Trainwreck, can next be seen in a co-starring role for the bigfoot comedy Nigel & Oscar vs. The Sasquatch.
