Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Round Table (formerly King Arthur) is officially starting production today and the helmer has just shared, via his Twitter account, an image of himself on set with leading man Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim, “Sons of Anarchy”). “First day on KORT,” Ritchie writes alongside the image.
Ambitiously planned to potentially span six films, Knights of the Round Table will offer a re-imagining of Arthurian legend. Believed to have been a 6th century King, Arthur defended Britain against Saxon invaders. The key source material for the film will be Thomas Mallory’s “Le Morte d’Arthur,” published in 1485 as a compilation of French and English tales.
Starring Hunnam as Arthur Pendragon, Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinevere and Eric Bana as Uther Pendragon, Knights of the Round Table also has Jude Law and Djimon Honsou circling major roles.
Knights of the Round Table was written by Joby Harold, who is producing with Akiva Goldsman, Tory Tunnell and Ritchie himself. Cate Adams and Niija Kuykendall are overseeing for Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow. It is currently scheduled for a July 22, 2016 release, where it will open opposite both Lionsgate’s Power Rangers and Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters.
