Millennium Entertainment announced today that it has acquired US distribution rights to Welcome to Me, starring Kristen Wiig, Wes Bentley, Linda Cardellini, Joan Cusack, Loretta Devine, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Thomas Mann, James Marsden, Tim Robbins, and Alan Tudyk. The film, which premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, is directed by Shira Piven and written by Eliot Laurence. A Bron Studios/Gary Sanchez Production, in association with Media House Capital, the film is produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Aaron L. Gilbert, Marina Grasic, Jessica Elbaum, and Kristen Wiig. Millennium Entertainment plans to release Welcome to Me in 2015.
“In ‘Welcome to Me’ Shira Piven has crafted an inspired film that features Kristen Wiig in a brilliantly funny and moving role,” said Bill Lee, Millennium Entertainment CEO. “We’re so pleased to be in business with this tremendous group of filmmakers and look forward to bringing this very special film to audiences.”
The film centers on fame obsessed Alice who, after winning $86 million in lottery money, decides to spend it all on a TV show about herself. The show reflects Alice’s larger-than-life personality, but as it becomes more and more popular the people in her life begin distancing themselves, leaving Alice to decide whether celebrity and recognition really brings happiness.
In August, the management team of Millennium Entertainment led by CEO Bill Lee, and Virgo Investment Group LLC, a private investment firm, partnered to acquire the Millennium Entertainment catalog assets and film distribution platform from a consortium of investors. As a part of the transaction, Millennium Entertainment will undergo a name change in the coming months. Check back for details on that as they become available.
