Once again the temperature outside is rising and the summer movie season is about to heat up. We wouldn’t want you going into that multiplex without knowing what’s in store, so ComingSoon.net has chosen over 40 of the season’s most promising flicks for our Summer 2018 Movie Preview , which you can check out in the gallery below!
Superhero fans can expect plenty of fun as Deadpool, Ant-Man, The Incredibles, Teen Titans and pretty much the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe do their avenging on the big screen. There’s going to be a ton of non-comic book action fare as well, as Tom Cruise , Dwayne Johnson , Benicio Del Toro, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg lock and load to kick plenty of ass and hopefully walk away from some cool explosions. The Star Wars universe makes its welcome return to the summer blockbuster parade for the first time in 13 years, while the Mission: Impossible , Equalizer , Hotel Transylvania , Sicario , Oceans , Mamma Mia! and Jurassic franchises get new installments as well.

Avengers: Infinity War (April 27)
After a decade of unprecedented buildup, Marvel Studios unleashes the full might of their cinematic universe to battle Thanos, that evil purple dude that wants to destroy half the universe. Iron Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy and so many more collide in this massive event picture that will culminate in... another movie next year!
Tully (May 4)
The Young Adult team of director Jason Reitman, screenwriter Diablo Cody and star Charlize Theron reunite for this already critically-acclaimed comedy-drama about a frazzled mother of three who gets a night nurse (Mackenzie Davis) to help take care of her children. The two wind up forming a tight bond. Mark Duplass and Ron Livingston co-star.
Overboard (May 4)
This sex reversal remake of the 1986 Goldie Hawk/Kurt Russell comedy follows a spoiled Mexican playboy (Eugenio Derbez) who gets amnesia and is convinced by a single, working-class mom (Anna Faris) that they are married.
Breaking In (May 11)
Gabrielle Union stars in and co-produces this thriller about a mother trying to protect her children during a home invasion. James McTeigue (V For Vendetta ) directs while Will Packer produces.
Life of the Party (May 11)
Melissa McCarthy takes on Rodney Dangerfield's Back to School formula in this comedy about a housewife getting a divorce who decides to join her daughter's sorority. Molly Gordon, Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Jacki Weaver, Julie Bowen and Matt Walsh co-star.
Book Club (May 18)
The dream team of Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen, Jane Fonda and Mary Steenburgen star in this comedy about a group of older women who read "Fifty Shades of Grey" together and decide to spice up their lives. Andy García, Don Johnson, Richard Dreyfuss, Craig T. Nelson and Alicia Silverstone co-star.
Deadpool 2 (May 18)
Time to make the chimichangas, as America's favorite red-clad Merc with a Mouth is back after the phenomenal success of the first movie. This time around he tangles with Josh Brolin's Cable, on a mission through time to kill a kid, with only Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson to stop him by forming a new mutant team: X-Force.
Show Dogs (May 18)
Will Arnett, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Natasha Lyonne and Jordin Sparks star in this family comedy set in a world where humans and canines co-exist. It follows a police dog who has to go undercover as a primped show dog in order to prevent a crime.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)
After much behind-the-scenes turmoil in which original filmmakers Phil Lord & Chris Miller were replaced by Oscar winner Ron Howard, the story behind Princess Leia's scoundrel of choice can finally be told. Alden Ehrenreich will attempt to fill Harrison Ford's shoes in this prequel about how Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), met Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), and pulled off an incredible heist. Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany and Woody Harrelson co-star.
Action Point (June 1)
Bad Grandpa and Jackass star Johnny Knoxville is up to his usual crazy stunt antics in this slapstick comedy set at an intentionally unsafe theme park. British TV vet Tim Kirkby (Look Around You , Fleabag , Veep ) directs.
Adrift (June 1)
Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin star in this true story of a couple who set out on a sailing voyage directly in the path of one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in history. With their boat in ruins after the storm, they have to fight to survive.
Hereditary (June 8)
Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Byrne star as a family dealing with the supernatural haunting by the former family matriarch. This overwhelmingly positively reviewed horror flick could be a sleeper hit of the summer.
Hotel Artemis (June 8)
Screenwriter Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3 , Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation ) makes his directorial debut with this stylish sci-fi genre bender about an ultra-exclusive, members-only hospital hidden in a hotel for criminals. The star-studded cast of the futuristic flick includes Jodie Foster, Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum, Sterling K. Brown, Jenny Slate, Charlie Day and Zachary Quinto.
Ocean's 8 (June 8)
Over a decade after the George Clooney-led Ocean's trilogy ended, Sandra Bullock (as Danny Ocean's sister Debbie Ocean) is putting together a new crew of all-female thieves and con artists to pull off a jewel heist in New York. The star-studded cast includes Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter, with Matt Damon and Carl Reiner reprising their roles.
Incredibles 2 (June 15)
Brad Bird returns to the Pixar fold to write and direct the long-awaited sequel to the 2004 superhero family hit. This one picks up literally moments after the first, and involves Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl (Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter) teaming with a wealthy industrialist (Bob Odenkirk) to bring supers back to the public.
Superfly (June 15)
This remake of the 1972 blaxploitation classic stars Trevor Jackson, Jason Mitchell, Michael Kenneth Williams, Lex Scott Davis and Jennifer Morrison. Jackson plays Youngblood Priest, a young pimp and gangster making his way in the Atlanta scene.
Tag (June 15)
A group of ex-classmates meet up and organize a game of tag that finds them traveling across the country in this outrageous comedy. Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Ed Helms and Jake Johnson star as the buddies, while Annabelle Wallis, Hannibal Buress, Isla Fisher, Rashida Jones and Leslie Bibb co-star.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return to Isla Nublar to rescue the remaining Jurassic World dinosaurs before a natural calamity destroys them all. However, darker forces are at work. Jeff Goldblum reprises his Ian Malcolm role, while James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Toby Jones and Rafe Spall co-star.
The Hustle (June 29)
This female-centric remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (itself a remake of Bedtime Story ) stars Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway as a pair of con artists compete to fleece someone in a "loser leaves town" contest of skill. The feature directorial debut of British TV vet Chris Addison (Veep , The Thick of It ).
Sicario: Day of the Soldado (June 29)
Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin return for this sequel that sees a Mexican drug war escalating to the point that cartels are now transporting jihadi terrorists across the border. Jeffrey Donovan, Catherine Keener and Matthew Modine also star, though Emily Blunt will not return this time out.
Uncle Drew (June 29)
Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving plays Uncle Drew, an elderly streetball legend who was previously featured in a series of Pepsi ads. The story involves a basketball tournament in Harlem, and features Nick Kroll, Shaquille O'Neal, Reggie Miller, Chris Webber and Nate Robinson.
The First Purge (July 4)
Get ready to get your purge on again. This fourth installment in the series is actually a prequel, taking us back to the original experiment instituted by the New Founding Fathers of America to have one night of unchecked aggression in one isolated community. Of course, the purge winds up spreading across the country.
Ant-Man and The Wasp (July 6)
Paul Rudd's Scott Lang returns as Marvel's shrinking/growing master thief, this time on a mission to help Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) turn up secrets from their past. Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, Tip "T.I." Harris and David Dastmalchian also return, with Walton Goggins, Hannah John-Kamen and Laurence Fishburne as new characters, while Michelle Pfeiffer plays Janet van Dyne, Hank's long lost wife and the original Wasp.
Sorry to Bother You (July 6)
Rapper Boots Riley makes his audacious writing/directing debut with this off-kilter comedy about a black telemarketer (Lakeith Stanfield) who rises through the ranks by using a magical white voice (David Cross), only to find the business he works for ever more distrubing. Tessa Thompson, Jermaine Fowler, Omari Hardwick, Terry Crews, Patton Oswalt, Danny Glover, Steven Yeun and Armie Hammer also star.
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (July 13)
Adam Sandler once again voices Dracula in this third animated monster mash from director Genndy Tartakovsky. This time around the monsters decide to take a luxury cruise to legendary sites like the Bermuda Triangle and Atlantis (now a casino), while a descendant of the Van Helsing line attempts to wipe them all out.
Skyscraper (July 13)
Dwayne Johnson goes full Die Hard in this action flick about a security expert with a prosthetic leg who must rescue his family from a burning building taken over by terrorists. Johnson reunites with his Central Intelligence director Rawson Marshall Thurber.
The Equalizer 2 (July 20)
Denzel Washington's Robert McCall is back for some more Boston-set mayhem as director Antoine Fuqua and writer Richard Wenk help orchestrate more vigilante justice for McCall to enact. Ashton Sanders, Pedro Pascal, Melissa Leo, and Bill Pullman co-star.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (July 20)
This sequel to the 2008 musical smash finds Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) looking further into her mother’s past when she seeks guidance on how to handle her pregnancy. Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters and Meryl Streep all return, with Cher also along for the Abba-injected fun.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (July 27)
Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt returns for his sixth mission where the team has to deal with the repercussions of a job gone wrong. Death-defying stunts ensue. Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris all return from previous installments, while Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby and Angela Bassett join up.
Teen Titans Go! to the Movies (July 27)
Based on the popular animated Warner Bros. series which airs on Cartoon Network, this film finds the Titans seeking out the perfect director for their debut on the big screen. Featuring Nicolas Cage as the voice of Superman!
The Darkest Minds (August 3)
This sci-fi thriller takes place in a world where a plague kills nearly all of America's children, with the ones left behind possessing special abilities. Amandla Stenberg, Mandy Moore and Gwendoline Christie star.
Disney's Christopher Robin (August 3)
In this Hundred Acre Woods-spin on the Hook formula, the story finds a grown up Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) utterly devoid of imagination, and only Winnie the Pooh and pals can snap him out of it. Directed by Marc Forster (Finding Neverland ).
Mile 22 (August 3)
Mark Wahlberg headlines this intense action thrill ride that re-teams him with director Peter Berg (Lone Survivor ). This potential franchise starter follows an elite American intelligence officer as he tries to secretly move a police officer with sensitive information out of a foreign country. Co-starring John Malkovich, Lauren Cohan, Iko Uwais and Ronda Rousey.
Searching (August 3)
John Cho (Star Trek ) stars in this surprise Sundance hit shot from the point-of-view of smartphones and computer screens. Cho plays a father trying desperately to find his missing 16-year-old daughter.
The Spy Who Dumped Me (August 3)
Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon star in this action comedy about two friends embroiled in a major international conspiracy when one of their ex-boyfriend's unexpectedly reveals that he is actually a CIA agent.
The Meg (August 10)
In development since the mid-nineties, this giant shark thriller based on Steve Alten's novel stars Jason Statham as a surly diver who must rescue a deep sea submarine attacked by a prehistoric Megalodon shark. Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao and Cliff Curtis also star.
Alpha (August 17)
Set 20,000 years ago during the Paleolithic period, this film seeks to tell the story behind the first bonding between man and canine. Directed by Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli ) and starring Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Crazy Rich Asians (August 17)
Director Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation ) directs this adaptation of Kevin Kwan's novel of the same name about a Chinese American professor (Constance Wu) who discovers that her boyfriend comes from an extravagantly wealthy and strange family.
The Happytime Murders (August 17)
Melissa McCarthy and a whole cadre of puppets star in this adult take on a Muppet-style film from director Brian Henson. The film involves a series of serial killings in a world where man and puppets co-exist, and co-stars Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale and Elizabeth Banks.
Replicas (August 24)
The Matrix star Keanu Reeves returns to the sci-fi realm in this thriller about a synthetic scientist in a fascist future who uses his skills to bring back his family after they are killed in a car accident. Alice Eve and John Ortiz co-star.
Slender Man (August 24)
The online creepypasta sensation we all know as Slender Man has gotten several low-budget films over the years, but this is the first big studio effort to exploit the phenomenon. It follows 5 teenage girls in a small town perform a ritual to summon Slendy for evil purposes.
